These Mountains

from Picture Postcards by C.D. Onofrio

/

about

a white wolf crossed our path on a dark and winding mountain highway. We stopped and watched the wolf sitting at the edge of the woods.

I was later told that a white wolf is referred to as a "spirit wolf"

the song came some time after that

this track was recorded at the ampi theatre @ Queenston Heights late at night

the lights to the ampitheatre happened to be left on that night
my bud Rudy came along for moral support.

lyrics

Spirit Wolf

when the fire in your heart seems to flicker like a circuit with a short
and the critic in your mind rips your pieces like a professor of the arts
when you can’t say where your pay is coming from day to day, day to day
When you can’t tell if the mountain behind or the mountain in front makes more sense to climb

we go dancing in these mountains
And these mountains, dance with us
spirit wolf is watching as we move

when the bottle or the pill, or the pipe makes more sense than confessions of the church
when you can’t tell the forest from the trees lining the highways maple, elm and birch
when all you have is a feather of faith and you float it down a mountain stream like a prayer
when all your lost loved ones, daughters and sons, and every moment makes you wish that they were there

we go dancing in these mountains
And these mountains, dance with us
spirit wolf is watching as we move

when the wind blows through your soul like the melody of an old familiar song
when you take a deep breathe and you gather yourself and find the strength to carry on
when the destination is a million miles away and the journey is day by day, day by day
when there’s nothing else to say.

we go dancing in these mountains
And these mountains, dance with us
we go dancing in these mountains
And these mountains, dance with us
spirit wolf is watching as we move
