Daylight Streams

Daylight streams through your window
Gold and green, gold green
Sit right down take a load off
There’s been so much, now you’re with me
It’s been a hard hard year
Some folks we loved
Are no longer here
It’s hard to move on and carry with you
Leave what hurts you and takes what serves truth
Take a step towards what you’re here for
Walking forward through your own door
Keep your heart strong
when its roken
And walk on towards what you believe in
Daylight streams through your window
Gold and green gold and green
And on the t.v. talking heads go
Saying something don’t know what it means
Its been a hard hard year
Its time to let go of
Those old fears
Let them burn and never return
Let them know they no longer serve
Step towards those things your dreaming
Those things your heart are still believing
Walk towards those things
That bring you to life make you light up
And make you shimmer
Gooooooold
Daylight streams through your window
Gold and green, gold and green

Lucille Clifton Goes Walking
There’s a black hawk circling at the banks of Buffalo
a diamond being shape in the belly of black coal
Lucille is out walking on a long memory
as the river keeps flowing
under black sky blooming
where the memory was buried
and Lucille started knowing
her words go out dancing
aware of wild blessings
under the grass growing
Lucille why do we choose the fear?
you yourself have seen something other so clear
in choosing life
and a vision of another way
walking on the bridge between starshine and clay
across the range Lucille named a deathless body
became the totem of a tribe
heard an ancient music
filled her ear with light
from across the ocean
her fingers in the land
in the winds of hate.
in the winds of blame
Lucille became a poem
when she was thrown into the flame
Lucille why do we choose the fear?
you yourself have seen something other so clear
in choosing life
and a vision of another way
walking on the bridge between starshine and clay
Lucy killed a white man on a white horse
who killed the sons of the mothers of the village
where she’d walked from new orleans to virginia
to be traded in chains and to work her days away
on a day, maybe may, Lucy hanged
blood ran down her body and settled on the grass
and the night turned black as the evening past
under long chains of names Lucy rides across the plains.
she can hear the chimes of freedom in the blackness of the night.
she can smell the wild grasses. she can feel the soft extravagance.
of the moonlight on its course of her body on the body
of a white horse under stars
as she cries “ I ride, I ride!”
from Dahomey to Depew
from ashes and from blood.
she pronounces something new

(C am7 F F)
In the darkness of the night you see my weakness clear as in daylight
On this road I’ve gone astray, I’ve lost my way, as many times I’ve fallen
Huddled in a mess, I made myself think I’d been forgotten
In the wilderness, beneath the forest floor, buried in a hole, I covered myself over
Holding myself tightly in my fear I could not see you anymore
(G F C C)
I didn’t know the warmth I felt was your presence watching over me
(C am7 F F)
I turned and saw you there I felt as if I won the lottery, but I am broken pottery
(G F C C)
But your healing ways are plentiful, I am broken but made beautiful
Verse 2
(C am7 F F)
I run my fingers on the scars from the time of only my survival
In the places I could not face, I buried them in secret
Any deluge would be find to muddy up my mind and form regret
And my skin will tell its story, cast among the lowly, cursed with words of scorn, blessed and become holy
For I was born into the world to come to know of those who love to hate me
(G F C C)
But through your words you’ve taught me, as the lilies and the birds I shall not worry
I’ve been woven I’ve been grown, I’ve been shown that in this way I shall not hurry
(C am7 F F)
Still I am sold most each and every day that there is something wrong with me, that I am incomplete
(G F C C)
But my being is a miracle, I am broken but made beautiful
Verse 3
Now your tattooed on my skin, my soul and in my sight in all direction
You shelter me in winds of change and steady me when times become uncertain
While I have a voice to raise I’ll praise you as my rock and my foundation
And when I make mistakes, I know I can be forgiven. When I am a saint, I know I can be a sinner
I’ll pour you with my coffee in the morning, in the end we’ll sit for dinner
(G F C C)
Bless this body, bless this bread, bless this wine and blessings in our time
(C am7 F F)
Still you come to me in times of dreams and see that I will still be searching, I am still uncertain
(G F CC)
But your loving ways are plentiful, I am broken but made beautiful

Roses in the Open Air
04:06
|
|||
Im going back in time
Drinking sweet old wine at the side of the road in the shade of the tree in the summertime
I’m going to sit right there
In the open air its a fine affair
Where the roses meet the wind to make a quiet pair
And further on the road we put on quite a show singing rock and roll
and go and take a stroll into a town that we dont know
And on a dusty road in an empty store on the rusty strings of an old guitar i sing you this song
Do do do, do doo do
Do do do, do dooooo
With a little care i’ll make you not so scared
and your my little bear and im your friend you can lean on me again
When we pack it in, with our drinking tin at the fireside
On the summer night under the moonlight
When i held you close on the country road in the summer air
Under the stars out there in the middle of nowhere
I’m going back in time drinking your sweet wine
In the summer time and sing your song so softly in the night
doo
In the open air, i’m going to sit right there let my hair down
And let the breeze kiss again my salty skin

Rose Of Jericho
03:46
|
|||
Oh lets plant a rose of Jericho
On the eve of the new moon
For what has died will be revived
What’s passed will be renewed
For what you thought would be the end
Was beginning again
And when you thought you’d lost your friend
You got closer in the end
Oh let’s plant a rose of jericho
On the eve of the new moon
For what has died will come to life
What’s past will be renewed
So look inside your heart to find
Whats died and needs some help
And then offer it into the ground
Let growth come out
Oh let’s plant a rose of jericho
On the eve of the new moon
For you will find what’s died will come
Back to life a new
When despair is in the air
And you can’t find your way
It is in between the visioning
And you can’t touch your faith
Oh let’s plant a rose of jericho
On the eve of the new moon
When what has died comes back to life
What’s lost will be revealed
Let go of mistakes you’ve made
Allow the pages to be turned
And go on take another step
And grow in what you’ve learned
