It’s 4 Am in the Alleghenies I look at you in the passenger seat you’re asleep and I’m praying we get home safe cause lord I’m beat I’m so tired of this spinning wheel in the whirlpool of my heart I take the punches til the punches don’t hurt I turn around and I try to restart I can’t tell you who I’m dancing with what is real and what is myth I couldn’t say just what the devil’s wearing I can’t tell if these are fool’s errands woke up this morning was 11:11 that won’t mean much unless your looking for heaven every sign might be the divine, every step can be in the light still sometimes I feel I’m playing blind the cards are stacked and the chips are tight while everybody’s playing from the odds I put my faith in this thing called God I can’t tell you who I’m dancing with what is real and what is myth I couldn’t say just what the devil’s wearing I can’t tell if these are fool’s errands when I tell you that I’ve seen the lord you look at me as if to say “what for?” I’m gettin tired that I’m beyond caring if you think that these are fool’s errands thunder cracks as your crying tears I wind up thinking about these years rain falls from these darkened skies rain falls from your pretty eyes you look at me and say “I wanna die” I’m on my knees and I’m asking why why won’t lightning strike me down get me out of this God forsaken town all the joy, all pain all the love, all the shame all these promises that I’ve broken all these words I should’ve never spoken oooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhh ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhh sit right down I’ll tell you of my story where I’m from and where I’m going but I can’t tell you who I’m dancing with what is real or what is myth I couldn’t say just what the devil’s wearing I can’t tell if these are fool’s errands

April is the sweetest one a smell just like Lilac and if not for those summer night’s I might not have come back all these whithered stamps of time told upon these walls a heap of broken images cast upon the falls Marie Marie look at me remember where I’m from look at me Queen Marie see what i've become the Queen sat in her tarnished throne with the whithered stamps of time they focussed in on her next move when the obvious bell did chime the obvious chime of the obvious bell didn’t make a sound leaves blew on the Autumn breeze to never hit the ground Marie Marie stay with me I’m feeling poor tonight stay with me Queen Marie stay and hold me tight walk the street with your hair down Peter’s coming with your money where you can meet up for a dime or your time of which there’s plenty the chemist said it would be alright but I haven’t quite been me with your hairdown go walk the street go and get yourself some tea Marie Marie speak to me what are you thinking of? Queen Marie, speak to me I think I’ve had enough Every shadow on this street flickers in the light whispered music on these strings your black hair drawn out tight wolves with drunken music in the violet light do croon they clatter and they chatter and they howl up at the moon Marie, Marie walk with me I hope you always will what I’ve seen Queen Marie must be a secret still I perceived the prophecy but I doubted like the rest now I am a proper fool waiting for expected guest the lights they wait to be lit up upon this unreal city and when they do I will decide if it’s saved me or it’s killed me

what does the wind sing? wee aye allah wee aye eh wee aye allah wee aye allah ley what does the thunder say? Oh OH Oh OH Oh Oh Oh Niagara run right through me til I end my song water over rock, water over rock water over rock, water over rock water over rock, water over rock music sweeps by me along the river down Queen, Victoria, down Hiram, down Bender along the parkway to the upper river there only the water only the water only the water only the water refrain: water much below the ridge a crowd flows over Rainbow bridge there only the water only the water, only the water down to the whirlpool come arab come jew come In dios or Indian Asian or African Come on come on come all come all There is another verse that I do not sing in this demo, perhaps it's because I always improvise it, something like: the stillness of winter in stony places under the torchlight red the curious face and all the while moving inside there's this burning burning burning burning

the Oratory of St. Joseph took 60 years to build they were digging out the basement for a year or maybe two someone saw an angel with a message in the sky said if you keep on building know that you will never die x2 they poured me out a serving from a silver croft of wine said “my blood flows in the river, go and drink from it some time” the river flows beneath you in a streaming breathe of light and pours off of your body like a moonbeam in the night x2 How could I forget you? Why would I even try? Your face contains a cloud form of a heartshape in the sky they're dreaming up the coming of the ending of the war said they've come a seeking the child of a girl x2 said that they could see you clear in colors and in tones before even a chisel ever hit upon the stone they say that it's the ending or the starting of an age like the way the night's end is a dawning of a day x2 was I speaking falsely or was I too close to the truth what I whispered in your ear that night that implicated you you're telling me I'm walking in the shadow of myself and my brother says he's worried for my mental health I saw they ran your story on the front page of the news not the type of glory I would ever want for you I saw you as a rainbow, guess I wanted it that way I saw you as a portal that would open up someday I tell myself be patient, it will all work very well but I'm getting anxious just a stirring in my cell x 2 the Oratory of St. Joseph took 60 years to build the pathway to salvation takes the toll on human will

about

From the very first song, "Fool's Errands".... ---
This is almost a stadium anthem. The piano begins, you can hear the crowd going wild, then the singing starts, everybody knows the words and sings along "It's four a.m. in the Alleghenies, I look at you in the passenger seat..." As the other instruments come in the crowd slowly stops singing, they are only watching now, drinking in the music as the songs soars and soars, everybody realizes that the words are about them, and the song keeps growing, and growing, till that line is upon them, and "Get me out of this godforsaken town" explodes from the speakers and it does not matter what town you were from before you got here, you will never go back anymore - what is real and what is myth - all the words that were never spoken -- and the band goes into overdrive tak-tak-tak-tak-tak-tak-tak-tak and the girl who does harmony lifts it into the stratosphere. Then the song comes down towards its ending, "if you hear me, no concern".
Yea, maybe it is all fool's errands.
The answer is NO of course. What we do we do because it is the only thing we can ever do. If what we do are fool's errands, then fool's errands is all there is. Whatever we call it, we see our life unfolding and our part in it is... well, what do you want to call it? I don't care what. There are no choices, call it fool's errands or victory. The song tells us that our life is worthy, because while we may have our little silly doubts that 'it's all fool's errands', it is OUR life.

- Jos Meijer, Author "To Begin With, This!"

This album owes alot of its inspiration to Rod Standish and his idea for a Jam in Perpetuity. A musical jam that goes forever. The concept lit my imagination on fire, and I hypothesized that such a musical jam if conducted with right intention, over a long duration time, would create peace on Earth, this is a profession of faith, yes, but I've believed it to be in accord with principles of the physical system of our natural world.

The title, Love in the Wasteland, had been in the works since a friend asked me years ago what I was busy with, and I told him I was “busy loving the wastelands”. He mentioned that he thought it was a good title for something and I've been working with it as an album title since. The shape of this album didn't come until I realized that Love in the Wasteland was a sort of hybrid of two of T.S. Eliot's most popular poems, “The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock” and “the Wasteland”. I looked at the poems with new eyes and I found inspiration in the poem that seemed to fit magically in with the concept of the Jam in Perpetuity and with my own experiences.

The first time I told a particular young woman the idea of “the Jam In Perpetuity”, she said, “woah, that's like Tesla meets Beethoven”. She became a muse and more for this album.

Lastly, the other muse, the wasteland that I was busy loving at the time, the neglected downtown of Niagara Falls, Ontario, the reflection of the values of our time, living in a time where the wasteland has become increasingly our planet. This album could not have been made without the inspiration of the patterns of the natural world, and our human patterns within it.

The wasteland can sometimes be physical - psychological - emotional - mental - spiritual
